Preliminary translation
We have created a number of sections in which we focus on specific topics about Fokker and/or its aircraft:
Many biographies have already been written about Fokker, so we will stay here briefly. Anthony Fokker was born on April 6, 1890 in Blitar, Java, then part of the Dutch East Indies, as the son of a wealthy coffee planter. At the age of 4 the Fokker family settled in Haarlem. School and study were not for Anthony. The only diploma he possessed was a driver's license. But he had plenty of energy. At the age of 20 he was sent to Germany by his father to learn a technical trade. After trying a few schools, Antony decided to set up his own business and build airplanes. After the usual start-up problems, he managed to build the Spin and demonstrate it in Haarlem, among others. His name was established and he moved among the 'jet set' of Germany. In 1912 he settled in Berlin and later in Schwerin. There he built approximately 4,000 aircraft for the Germans between 1914 and 1918. After the First World War, Fokker started again in the Netherlands. With a spectacular smuggling operation he managed to transfer his factory from Schwerin to Amsterdam (North). In 1925 Fokker went to America and later founded an aircraft factory there, which would grow into the largest in the world. After 1935 it went downhill. The arrival of all-metal aircraft and the recession killed the Fokker factory. Fokker became the European representative of Douglas. In 1939 he died of an infection, after a nose operation.
