The CX as a chocolate bomber

In mid-2024 we received an email from Thijs Gras asking if we had more information about the CX with license plate 712.

Thijs indicated that he was working on a book about the Spaniards who stayed on Ameland in 1938. These were (political) refugees, nationalists who were able to return to Spain after the German occupation of the Netherlands.

We (Fokker-History) had no additional information.

Thijs indicated that on June 17 or 20, 1938, there was talk of a biplane, namely the Fokker CX 712, which dropped a package on the beach at 11.10 am.

It was a package containing cookies and chocolate intended for the refugees.

In the commotion that ensued, the police drew up a report.

Witnesses were heard who recognized the white-lettered 712 of the LVA.

They provided the assurance and provided photos and technical details.

The plane almost certainly took off from Soesterberg airport.

The police report included statements from the pilot and the flight engineer.

The BWK dropped the package.

Of course it remains a very remarkable action!
