Fokker 100

The Fokker 100
Official: Fokker F.28-0100

Development of the Fokker 100 began in November 1983, at the same time as the Fokker 50.
As usual, the market demanded more modern, more efficient aircraft.
As the successor to the F.28, the Fokker 100 certainly succeeded in this.
The wing area was increased, a digital cockpit was developed and the aircraft was fitted with two Rolls Royce Tay Mk 620-15 engines, later the Mk 650-15.
The first Fokker 100 customers, Swissair, KLM and US air, wanted, among other things, a new ILS system, larger cargo doors and different passenger doors.
Because Fokker this and many other customer requirements the program and its delivery have been greatly delayed.
The first flight of the Fokker 100 took place on November 30, 1986.
The first delivery of a Fokker 100 to Swissair took place on February 29, 1988.
The Fokker 100 is the largest Fokker aircraft ever and could carry up to 122 passengers.

While Fokker had previously delivered commercial aircraft in small numbers to small and medium-sized airlines, the Fokker 100 was ordered in large series by the largest airlines.
For example, the American US Air ordered 40 Fokker 100s and the large American Airlines no fewer than 75.
KLM flew both new and used Fokker 100s, a total of 23 units.
As with the F.27 and F.28, production of components was spread among a number of aviation companies in Germany, Ireland, England and the United States.

With the arrival of the Fokker 70, the Fokker 70 and the Fokker 100 were built together on one production line at Fokker Schiphol.
Due to the bankruptcy of Fokker on March 15, 1996, Fokker 100 production ceased and production was limited to 281 examples, of which approximately 150 are still flying (June 2020).

Explanation of the official name:
On the official Type Certificate and Certificate of Registration the Fokker 100 is listed as Fokker F.28-0100.
Because many components of the Fokker F.28 were used for the Fokker 100, the Fokker 100 did not have to be completely recertified.
Hence the official listing is Fokker F.28-0100.
